How to decide things that are not just black or white?

Terror deals with an exceptionally difficult moral and ethical dilemma, i.e. how to make decisions in extreme situations and how much individual human lives are worth. The play takes place in a courtroom where, along with military pilot Lars Koch (accused of the death of 164 plane passengers), the presiding judge, the defence, the public prosecutor and two witnesses are present as well as, of course, the audience who have to take on the role of jurors this time. They are the ones who decide the pilot’s guilt or innocence by casting a vote. During the trial against Lars Koch, it actually turns out that he made a judgement call for fewer victims in exchange for a greater number in a football stadium, which of course brings up ethical questions – how much is a person’s life actually worth? Is it better to shoot down a plane with 164 passengers to avoid the death of 70,000 people in a football stadium? Would the pilot have shot down the plane even if his family had been on board? The dilemma posed by the play and its performances is an ethical one of making an "impossible decision" over how to decide in extreme cases of acts of terrorism. The prosecuted pilot Lars Koch had to decide instantly how to save a situation and who to sacrifice.

Post-performance talk with the artists in the Mezzanine.
