The New Post Office – alternative production models

A presentation by Mladinsko Theatre

The New Post Office (Nova pošta) is a unique production model in the Slovenian theatre space. It pools the forces of a public institution - the Mladinsko Theatre - and a non-government organisation - the Maska Institute; two producers who support engaged creative forms in the field of performing arts. It's a residence and laboratory project in a degraded urban area on the premises of the Stara pošta (an old, defunct post office), in a shack on the parking lot, fronted with a constellation of shipping containers. A different production model is an essential condition for new methods of creating contemporary theatre. Theatre that responds faster to the acute societal problems and whose actions penetrate the realm of the political, theatre that understands itself as a key social player and doesn't accept the discourse which sees an artist as a parasite of the society.
